About the Office

The 12th Suffolk district is one of 160 districts in the Lower House of the Massachusetts General Court. The 12th Suffolk district covers parts of: Mattapan, Dorchester, Hyde Park, and Milton. The district is both economically and racially diverse and rich in community assets. Representative Fluker-Reid’s vision for her office’s work with its constituents is one that values partnership and collaboration in order to drive results for the communities of the 12th Suffolk.

The Office of State Representative Brandy Fluker Reid serves the residents of Massachusetts through legislative advocacy, community engagement, and public service. Our team is committed to advancing equitable policy, amplifying community voices, and maintaining transparent, accessible communication with constituents.

Legislative & Office Administration Interns

The Legislative & Office Administration Intern will support the Representative’s policy and operational work. This role is ideal for students interested in state government, public policy, or the legislative process. Interns will track the Representative’s legislation, assist with preparing and filing budget amendments, draft testimony and letters of support, and help ensure timely follow-up on policy priorities. The position also includes access to staff email accounts to monitor and flag important correspondence, along with opportunities to identify efficiencies that strengthen office workflows and reporting to the Legislative Director. This internship offers a hands-on view of how a legislative office operates and provides meaningful experience with real-time policymaking.

Social Media & Communications Interns

The Social Media & Communications Intern will help shape the public-facing work of the office by supporting the Representative’s communication strategy across platforms. Interns will maintain and update the social media calendar, produce engaging content, and assist in developing creative ideas that highlight the office’s initiatives. The role includes attending events at the State House and in the community, photographing key moments, and coordinating information for the monthly newsletter in collaboration with the Legislative and District Directors. This internship is a strong fit for students interested in digital communications, public affairs, or storytelling in a government setting.

Constituent & Community Engagement Interns

The Constituent & Community Engagement Intern will serve as a first point of contact for community members seeking assistance from the office. Interns will monitor email requests related to unemployment, RMV inquiries, state agency navigation, and general community correspondence, and will also help staff the office phone line to ensure callers receive timely guidance and follow-up. They will attend community meetings, virtually or in person, to help the office stay connected to neighborhood priorities. This role requires strong communication skills, empathy, and a commitment to responsive public service, as interns will work closely with the District Director to support constituents throughout the district. Applicants with ties to the community are encouraged to apply, though all are welcome.

 

Qualifications
The ideal candidates are detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to public service. Strong communication and organizational skills are a must.

Digital Media Intern: 

(Summer 2026)

Position Title: Podcast/Digital Media Internship – Office of Representative Fluker-Reid

Location: Massachusetts State House & Hybrid Options

Hours: Part-Time (Flexible Scheduling)

Compensation: Unpaid Internship

Start Date: Summer 2026

 

​Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and creative Political & Digital Media Intern to support our office’s communications and outreach efforts. This role is ideal for individuals interested in politics, public service, and digital storytelling. The intern will play a key role in producing engaging multimedia content, with a strong emphasis on podcast development and social media strategy.

A major focus of this role will be the development and production of podcast content that highlights legislative priorities, community voices, and important issues affecting constituents. The intern will be involved in the full podcast production cycle including concept development, recording coordination, audio/video editing, and distribution; providing hands-on experience in building a political media platform from the ground up.

In addition to podcasting, the intern will be responsible for creating compelling social media content that translates policy and community initiatives into accessible, engaging formats. This includes designing graphics, editing videos, and crafting messaging that resonates with a broad audience across multiple platforms. The intern will help ensure that the office maintains a consistent and dynamic online presence that reflects its values and priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, recording, editing, and publishing of podcast content for the office

  • Design graphics and visual assets for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, etc.)

  • Edit short-form and long-form video content for digital distribution

  • Draft and schedule social media posts that align with the office’s messaging and priorities

  • Monitor social media engagement and suggest strategies to increase reach and impact

  • Collaborate with staff on digital campaigns, announcements, and community outreach initiatives

  • Stay current on social media trends and political communications strategies

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)

  • Experience with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, etc.)

  • Strong understanding of major social media platforms and content trends

  • Interest in politics, government, or public service

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently

LEGISLATIVE AIDE (CLOSED)

We are seeking a dedicated Legislative Aide (LA) to join Representative Fluker Oakley in the work to serve the constituents of the 12th Suffolk district. The LA serves as a liaison to multiple neighborhoods in the district, and will be responsible for constituent services and policy work relative to several issue areas. Overall, the work averages 55-60 hours per week. This position is based out of the State House and includes a number of essential responsibilities, including (but not limited to):

  • Provide administrative support to the Representative

  • Manage highly confidential and sensitive materials to ensure discretion and appropriate action

  • Proactively build and maintain relationships with constituents in order to support and advance efforts across the district, as well as help problem solve challenges;

  • Work closely with community organizations and residents on a wide range of issues;

  • Build and maintain relationships with key organizations and individuals;

  • Staff or represent Representative at events in the district, often in evenings (2-3 nights/week) and on weekends;

  • Research, track, and analyze key legislation and budget items;

  • Build and maintain coalitions of support to advance policy and district goals; and

  • Manage communication for the office, including written materials (e.g., correspondence, press engagements, testimony, advocacy materials) relating to legislation and budget, and social media management.
