BOSTON – Representative Brandy Fluker-Reid today announced her support for the re-election of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, citing key initiatives that have advanced economic development, neighborhood improvement, and housing stability in her district. In announcing her endorsement, she emphasizes the need for deeper partnership to build on areas of alignment and deliver for constituents.

As the Representative of the Blackest district in the City and the Commonwealth, she remains resolute in her expectation that Black and Brown communities will be at the center of this work in the next term and looks forward to partnering with Mayor Wu. She highlighted the need to prioritize the hub-school model in the City’s budget, ensuring adequate and sustainable funding, and also highlighted the outstanding commitments to Madison Park Technical Vocational High School and called for transparency and delivery of resources to strengthen the institution.

“Mayor Michelle Wu demonstrated deep investments in climate equity, public transportation access, and low-income housing during her first-term, and I look forward to partnering with her in her second term to strengthen BPS, support Blue Hill Ave as a business corridor and continue to improve services for our seniors across all fixed-income levels,”  said state representative Brandy Fluker-Reid. “Mayor Wu has strived to make Boston a place where everyone can thrive. I am moved to endorse her to build on previous successes, and I hope that Black and Brown communities will be the focal point of her policies next term to strengthen Black-owned businesses, to increase responsiveness in City services, and to support a shared goal that every Boston resident across the Diaspora receives the same investments to thrive and sense belonging in City Hall and throughout our neighborhoods.”

Mayor Wu’s administration has advanced initiatives that have meaningfully touched small businesses in the 12th Suffolk district through her Legacy Business Awards initiative. Rep. Fluker-Reid hopes that a second Wu administration will support Blue Hill Avenue as a business corridor by providing the necessary infrastructure for those businesses to thrive while laying a stronger foundation for neighborhood commerce. Efforts to support economic mobility for Black-owned businesses by fostering commercial property ownership, and expediting the permitting through the Inspectional Services Department are also necessary barriers to be removed in order to foster business growth.

In Mattapan Square, the City has advanced beautification projects and created a locally focused task force to engage community members in shaping the future of the neighborhood. The Representative looks forward to seeing this work continue and expanded with tree canopies and looks forward to policies that expand housing stability for seniors across a range of income levels, which will support residents seeking to remain rooted in our communities.

To strengthen the City government’s accountability to Black residents, the legislator also recommended the creation of an Office of Black American Affairs, modeled after the City’s Office of Immigrant Advancement, to ensure that Black residents’ concerns and contributions are fully represented within City government. Finally, she noted the importance of improving constituent responsiveness, both through the 3-1-1 system and in addressing broader service delivery challenges.

By affirming her support of Mayor Wu’s re-election campaign, Representative Fluker-Reid is committed to continuing collaboration with the City to secure long-term investments in education, economic development, and neighborhood stability for Boston’s residents. As she extends her support, Representative Fluker-Reid is clear in her expectations of a second Wu administration that partners to deepen its focus on these issues and others that remain central to Black and Brown constituents.
